Year 6 had a great day learning about science in the real world. We learnt lots of interesting facts. Our favourite workshops were all about honey bees and we enjoyed the challenge of building arch bridges at the canal station.
As part of Mar's topic on heroes we learnt about the Ancient Greek hero Hercules. The children worked in groups to learn one of the 12 labours story. They then chose a way to present their story to Saturn class, who had just started to learn about Hercules as part of their Ancient Greek topic. Here are some photos of the children working together.
We have enjoyed learning about Diwali. We worked with Jupiter class to learn more. We listened to the Diwali story and have made lanterns, clay divas, rangoli patterns and have tasted different spicy foods.
Thank you to Sophie-Grace who has helped us to learn more about Diwali and Diwali celebrations. We all enjoyed looking at her special clothes she wears at Diwali time. Thank you very much for the delicious food that was shared today. Our favourite was the Gari Roti!
The PTFA will be hosting their annual fireworks display on Saturday 8th November at the Knoll, Church Street, Wingrave. Refreshments and BBQ will be available from 6pm, bonfire at 6:30pm and the spectacular firework display begins at 7pm!
There will be a guy competition as usual again this year. This is an ideal activity for half term. Children should please bring their creative ‘guys’ to the school hall first thing on Friday 7th November. They will then be judged and prizes awarded. All the guys will then take pride of place on top of the bonfire.
As part of the Krispy Kreme Fundraising Scheme, these popular Original Glazed Doughnuts (doughnuts are NOT made in a nut free environment) will be on sale at the PTFA Bonfire on Saturday 8th November 2014. You have the opportunity to pre-order these at the discounted price of £8.95 per dozen or £3.50 for four. On the night costs (still discounted) will be £1.00 each, £4.00 for four or £10.00 a dozen.
Doughnut orders can be collected on the night from the catering tent.
Sammy Snake enjoyed tasting food at Borough Market, he then slithered along the Thames to see the poppies at the Tower of London. He thought about the soldiers, before having a picnic at St.Katherine's Dock.
We are enjoying learning about the five senses. We have been trying different activities using our senses. We tried to guess what was inside the pots using just our sense of smell.
We used the sense of touch to guess what was hidden inside the gloves.
We used our sense of taste when describing different foods.
We have been learning ways people can communicate if they do not have all their senses. We have learnt some sign language and wrote our names in brail. Can you find anything with brail writing on at home?
